Heavy, Heavy, Heavy

I feel heavier today. Yesterday was alarming and tragic and sad, but this morning felt even heavier. It’s as if before I even got out of bed for work this morning, my soul already knew that there was another murder to grieve today. Philando Castile, Falcon Heights Minnesota. Killed by a police officer.

What do write about on a day like today? Do I write about the role of implicit bias in police brutality? Do I write about the silent compliance of the many white people that I follow on social media? Do I write about the hope I think I have in Jesus? What do I say on a day like today? What do I do with this heaviness? How do we respond? How are you responding? Do you have room to care?

I wish that I was better at leading people in lament. Shucks, I wish I was better at lamenting.

How long, O Lord? How long?

How long, O Lord? How long?

You alone are my hope and refuge.

How long must we wait for you?
